NPCC Appoints Charles Dickerson As New President and CEO


The Northeast Power Coordinating Council, Inc. (“NPCC”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Dickerson to succeed Edward A. Schwerdt as NPCC’s President and CEO. Mr. Dickerson will assume his responsibilities on March 8, 2021. With NPCC’s focus on identifying and addressing new and emerging issues impacting Northeastern North America bulk power system reliability and security, Mr. Dickerson looks forward to continuing NPCC’s commitment to the collective vision of a highly reliable and secure North American bulk power system and assuring the effective, efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid.
“I am humbled and honored to be assuming the leadership for an organization charged with the monumental task of helping to ensure the reliably and energy security for more than 56 million people across the US and Canada,” said Mr. Dickerson, who has more than 30 years of broad utility experience ranging from production, transmission and distribution to customer service, human resources, and market/risk operations. Most recently, Charles served as President, Utility Division of SUEZ North America, where he led its regulated utilities across the United States.
His previous positions include having served as Chief Operating Officer for Austin Energy where he led strategic planning and execution for electrical transmission and distribution services; and as President of National Grid - USA Business Services. Prior to National Grid, he worked for Exelon-Pepco Holdings Inc. for 21 years. In addition, Mr. Dickerson brings deep governance expertise as a past Board of Directors member for both the Seedling and RMEL organizations.
Mr. Dickerson holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and master’s in applied management from the University of Maryland. In its Resolution of Appreciation, the NPCC Board of Directors expresses its heartfelt gratitude for Mr. Schwerdt’s 46 years of exceptional leadership, commitment and dedication, tremendous contributions and tireless execution of duties in ensuring the reliability of the interconnected bulk power system of Northeastern North America. Mr. Schwerdt was critical in developing NPCC into a respected reliability assurance organization and Regional Entity in the ERO Enterprise. Mr. Schwerdt will assist in the transition and continue his extraordinary service to the organization as President Emeritus until April 30, 2021, at which time he will enjoy the well-deserved milestone of retirement.
