Standards

In the development and enforcement of Regional Reliability Standards, NPCC, to the extent possible, facilitates attainment of fair, effective, efficient, and competitive electric markets while providing an open, transparent, fair and inclusive process that has no financial barriers to participation.

NPCC develops Regional Criteria that are necessary to implement, to augment, or to comply with NERC Reliability Standards, but which are not Reliability Standards. NPCC Regional Criteria also address reliability issues not within the scope of Reliability Standards, such as resource adequacy.

Regional Criteria

NPCC’s Regional Criteria is specific to electric utilities owning and/or operating in Northeastern North America. Criteria must be at higher bar than NERC Standards or Regional Standards.

Regional Standards

NPCC Regional Standards, once approved by the NPCC BOD, NERC Board of Trustees and the applicable governmental authorities e.g. FERC, become NERC Reliability Standards applicable and mandatory to the NERC Registered Entities only within the NPCC Region.

DER/VER Forum

Significant changes in the resource mix, including increased integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and Variable Energy Resources (VER), are rapidly changing the reliability landscape. NPCC conducts DER/VER Forums throughout the year which are open to anyone wishing to participate.

Regional Standards Committee

Maintains and manages 1) NPCC Regional Standards Development Process and 2) NPCC Directory and Criteria Development and Review Process. Provides consolidated NPCC Regional review and comments to existing and proposed NERC Standards.
